This handsome brown tabby has a heart as big as his purr!

Spencer is a handsome brown tabby with beautiful amber eyes who has been with for 3.5 months. He was originally on a euthanasia list at a busy shelter, having untreated diabetes and is sadly declawed on all four paws.

Spencer has come such a long way – his diabetes is completely controlled with just a tiny dose of insulin twice per day and a low-carb wet food diet. He is a friendly, affectionate cat who follows me around to find out what I’m doing (and if just perhaps, it might involve food) and chat about his day. Spencer is a good companion who will lie near me but he is equally independent and happy to find a quiet place or windowsill to sleep or watch the birds and squirrels. He may not be especially cuddly or like to be picked up, but will fluff himself up and wind around our legs when he is so very happy to see us.

Spencer usually walks around with his tail confidently in the air, and is constantly checking out smells, which may sometimes make him a bit anxious. This also means he may not want pets at times, and will give you some grumbly meows before letting you know it’s time to stop. This past week, he’s seemed more relaxed and added some new favourite spots to his territory. He still enjoys Cat TV (although real birds and chipmunks are more interesting), catnip toys, chasing a wand toy through his tunnel and recently, ripping around after a laser pointer. Spencer is not a fan of other cats (I think they scare him), he’s been interacting more with mine and although he hisses when they get too close, he’s easily distracted with a tiny food treat. He’d be ideal as an only cat, but might be able to live with some friendly respectful ones with proper introductions.

Spencer is looking for a quieter adult home and an adopter who can provide twice daily insulin injections and is committed to managing his diabetes with ongoing veterinary advice.
