Volunteering with Furry Tales Rescue
Would you like to volunteer, and make a difference in an animal’s life?
Furry Tales Rescue is currently seeking volunteers to assist at our community events & fundraisers at various locations in our local area of Smiths Falls, as well as Almonte, Brockville, Carleton Place, Kanata, Kemptville, Ottawa and Perth. There will be animals at most of the events.
Fostering generally lasts from 2 weeks to 2 months, sometimes longer. It requires a firm commitment to treat this animal as if it were your own, to integrate into the family, to socialize the animal, and provide a loving environment.
We also are looking for individuals who may be interested in helping us in the area of transportation. Please see our volunteer positions below, for complete details.

FUNDRAISER EVENTS
Events are mainly held in-store at local pet stores and at indoor/outdoor booths during community events. Depending on the shift assigned, duties may include display table set up, representing Furry Tales at the event, collecting donations, selling at-booth (raffle tickets, baked goods, crafts, t-shirts, etc), tear down, and clean up. This position requires an extremely reliable volunteer who will honour their shift commitment and develop a good working relationship with the pet stores and community businesses involved.
BAKERS
Bakers are volunteers who work from their own homes, or in their own organized groups, providing baked goods for specific fundraising events. For large events, bakers are welcome to man a table at the bake sales.
CRAFT MAKERS
Craft makers work from their own homes, or in their own organized groups, making pet-themed or holiday-themed crafts. The crafts will be sold or raffled off at fundraising events or on the Furry Tales Online Auction page.
DRIVERS
Donation drivers pick up from around the city and deliver to Smiths Falls storage or wherever needed. Types of drivers needed are Transport drivers to pick up rescue cats headed for Furry Tales or their pre-arranged foster home. Vet drivers to drop/off and pick/up cats between fosters & local vet clinics related to spay-neuters.
The cat transport volunteers need to be available & reachable most weekdays, as they are usually on-call, though we do try to give a couple of days’ notice. A valid driver’s license is required.
